Improving the Rivian Mobile App: Enhancing Control and Visibility over Home Charging and Security Features

The product:
Rivian Automotive, Inc. is an American electric vehicle manufacturer and automotive technology company that offers an electric sport utility vehicle and pickup truck on a "skateboard" platform. The Rivian mobile app is designed to provide users with control and visibility over their vehicle's charging, maintenance, and security features.
My role:
User Research, Interaction design, UI design, Prototyping & Testing
The challenge:
Users have expressed concerns over the wall charging gear screen for home charging, which does not provide any charge history or additional controls to restrict charging from the app.
The solution:
Improve the Rivian mobile app by adding new features that address the users' concerns regarding the wall charging gear screen and provide additional functionality to better suit their needs.

To better understand the needs and preferences of Rivian mobile app users, we conducted user research in the form of in-person interviews. From our research, we discovered the following insights:

Users want to have greater control over the charging and usage of their home charging station, as they may have concerns about unauthorized usage or overcharging.
Users would like to be able to access a history of their charging sessions and view detailed information about their vehicle's battery usage and charging patterns.
Users would like to be able to remotely control and monitor their vehicle's charging and security features, such as locking and unlocking the doors and monitoring the battery level.

Features
The improved Rivian mobile app includes the following features:
Charge History: Users can view a detailed history of their charging sessions, including the time and date of each session, the amount of charge delivered, and the total cost of the session.
Charging Settings: Users can adjust the charging settings of their home charging station, including the maximum charge rate, charging schedule, and the ability to restrict charging to authorized users.
Security Settings: Users can remotely control and monitor their vehicle's security features, including the ability to lock and unlock the doors, turn on the alarm, and monitor the battery level.
